Commuting to School

Since the fall of 2015, we have been walking Charlotte to and from school. It is a mike each way and though we could drive (and more recently have been doing so more often) the hike each way is now so normal to us it doesn't seem like a big deal at all.

The weather has been really nice the last few weeks and the yellow dust has started to clear.

Most mornings we push Zachary with Camille also but he sometimes walks chunks of it.
Here we are near the front gate of the base.

With Spring comes flowers and greenery,

And Bunnies! Charlotte announced they were giving the Tokis (Rabbits) away for free and we of course said no. Today I ran into another American who explained that his daughter also attends the Korean school and had simply brought one home yesterday. He let them play with it for a bit but brought it back the next morning. Funny. At least Charlotte asks me every day rather than just bringing one home.

Kids here are the same as American kids: loud and full of life. Here they are jump roping.

Looks like the school randomly had a campout for the older kids.

Cooking breakfast Korean style: noodles with egg and veggies.

Depending on the route there are beautiful homes here in Korea.

And run-down-not-so-beautiful homes.

There is no end to the Ajummas (Ah-Jew-Ma,  = a respectful term for a marriage-aged woman vs aunt) here. They all get into your business and try to help you parent. Most of the time I don't mind. Like when they help Zachary across the road.

We have two long walls the kids like to walk on the way to and from which slows us down considerably.

The other day I estimated that Charlotte has walked over 500 miles to school here. We are proud of her and I think we will miss this casual morning commute on foot.
