This Week

A few moments from this week.

It is hot and humid here. You would think we would shower more but it seems pointless as you start sweating again as soon as you get out unless the AC is running. Reminds me of my mission in Venezuela. Consequently, the girls are a little more messy than usual but we still try to keep them clean. Hair brushing is never a pleasant experience with Charlotte (though it is much better since I cut her hair) as she complains nearly every time about the process at the beginning and throughout the entire brushing.

On this night, however, Hazel offered to brush Charlotte's hair and she said yes! It was really fun to watch. They do get along sometimes. Oddly enough she did not complain while Hazel was brushing. I guess I am just a mean dad.

I took the girls on a run around the base (way too heavy to run up hills now, just saying) and they were really good. Hazel asked me to read a book to her while running so we read Frog and Toad the best we could. I will just say that I think reading while running matches the danger of driving and texting. But we all survived. The reward for the girls was time at the park.

The girls drew some pictures to send to friends and family. Stand by, they will eventually get put in the mail. The fun part was that Hazel drew a person with eyes, nose and mouth and arms and legs all by herself! It is thrilling to see her grow.

This little guy is a gem - however he has gotten used to being rocked to sleep as we don't have a crib and he gets really mad when he flips over on to his stomach and then just screams. So last night we went cold Turkey on getting him back up. Time to sleep through the night little man. Wish us luck.

I am proud of our girl's willingness to try new foods. It takes a little encouragement but they get the job done. Here we are making sushi roles for the first time ever. Super easy and fun to do. One Youtube video I found said to toss in some white wine vinegar and sugar to the rice (I did 3 TBSP vinegar + 1 TBSP granulated sugar in my rice [started with 1.5 cups dry] and it was a nice touch.

We did cheat a little as we pan-fried our tilapia first. We also thought that adding uncooked crunchy things that have been diced is a nice touch (red onion, carrot, bell peppers).

I think the best part was having leftovers as they were cooled over night and ready to go for lunch before church.

One last view.

Church is about 2+ miles away. The Sunday before last we decided to walk. Up to this point people have offered to pick us up which has been a major blessing. Thanks to the Boggs and Stacey Families for picking us up week after week while we wait for our car!

About one-half mile into the walk Jari discovered that the shoes she picked out for church that day were not ideal for the long walk. We were nearly late so she requested to push on. 1 mile in to the walk she was going bare foot. We laughed as we thought about all the Koreans who we assumed were judging us for walking around bare foot (remember their love for shoes?). Needless to say we were glad for baby wipes for feet that day.

Our branch is great but the meeting hour is lame: 1pm. This is prime nap time for Hazel so sacrament meeting is usually a struggle. Oh well.

All in all things have been really wonderful thus far.
