From Chiang Mai to Pattaya

Before leaving Chiang Mai we took a moment to walk around the original walls of the city. I think it was my years working in the archeology field with dad that makes me feel great respect for anything historical.

It was really warm and we attracted a lot of attention. I am not sure people get out and walk around the walls like we did too often. The walls are right in between 2 busy roads so our tour guide was nervous, but the kids did just fine.

We flew back to Bangkok and then jumped in the car with Mana who then drove us 1.5 hours to Pattaya where we stayed at a resort of sorts. It was a smaller room but the girls slept well.

And we enjoyed the view a lot. The hotel was built so that every room has its own balcony which was nice.

In the distance is a large all-wood temple called the Sanctuary of Truth. We were done with seeing more temples so we just hung out and swam in the pools.

We asked mana to take us out to the local markets for lunch. There are many reasons for this but the main two are that the food is much cheaper, and it is also really good!

This man runs a one-man kitchen. The name of his establishment is called "Slow But Steady" - and so it was. We did not get food really quick but it was delicious.

Words cannot describe how much I love this photo of Charlotte. What a doll. Beautiful girl.

Back at the hotel, we discovered a play area for kids. I cannot figure out how to rotate this picture on the blog but as you can see, Zachary did not care for the ball pit. However, he loved to chase the balls around once outside the pit.

Pattaya is apparently a favorite place for Russian Ex-pats to go and retire. Perhaps it is the warmth they seek after years of cold. We found this "Russian" restaurant, and though the menu was overwhelmingly big, it was all American or Thai food. So the girls got French fries and seeing how we were in a fishing town, I got some freshly grilled prawns. Yes, I sucked the gel-like stuff off the head like I was instructed to do. When in Rome...

Charlotte stuck to the fries and this macaroni. I think it had some BBQ sauce on it rather than cheese and between that and veggies it was actually really good.

Last day, on the way back to Bangkok for our flight home, Mana took us to a hill where there were once a few monkeys but because they were protected the population has grown a lot and the monkeys are now coming down the hill into town.

Here we got out to feed the monkeys.

I tried to feed the little ones as they did not seem to have much of a chance if left to the mercy of the big ones.

"Hello monkey, would you like to sit on my lap?"

We tried really hard to get a monkey to climb on Hazel but were just not successful which was sad for Hazel but she still had a great time.
