Korean Strawberries

While walking Charlotte home from preschool today we passed by a small fruit stand. I saw that the nice old lady there was selling this pack of strawberries  (~1.5 lbs) for 4000 ₩ (~$3.50). They did not look ripe at all but for that price, I couldn't pass them up. Ever since arriving here in Korea we have eyed the strawberries at the commissary, but at the going price of $7.50-8.00 / lb, we could not bring ourselves to buy them.

Well, we just tried these and to our great surprise, they are super soft and sweet. They are not as pretty as the California strawberries but they are delicious. I could not help but quote veggie tales, "I'm the Swede who went up the hill who came down with all the strawberries."

This country pushes the visual marketing of perishable goods way too much. That's why we have so many issues with chemical sensitivities (allergies) and why so much in the way of edible food goes to waste, because it isn't "pretty". I'm delighted that you got such a good deal on such a treat!
