Busan Day 3

Day 3 started with a few plans in keeping with the way we do things.

First up was breakfast; a mixture of Paris Baguette (charlotte and hazel chose these awful pieces of bread with white cheese, mayo and mustard, and eggs. A strawberry smoothie from Smoothie King helped them get through their breakfast.

The weather forecast 2 days prior called for rain. It was overcast but we never saw a drop of rain. But we enjoyed the weather by booking a boat ride through a local touring agency.

I wish my camera hadn't shifted this picture (or that I had at least noticed in time to get another picture). The English translation was really funny.

The boat ride went out to a lighthouse and back and lasted about 1 hour.

As you can tell, the boat was not exactly packed with tourists.

The breeze was delightful.

The small islands in the distance were our destination.

About 15 minutes in they played Kenny G's version of My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. Jari and I looked at each other and started laughing. Really? Playing a song linked to the sinking of the Titanic while on a boat ride?

Hazel was very concerned about why we were laughing. Jari provided the short version of the story of the Titanic but this only brought more questions. Why did they hit the ice? Why did the people die? Why was the water cold? Why did they go too fast in the boat?

This became the theme for the next 48 hours, the sinking of the Titanic. She told and retold the story to us and Charlotte over and over.

The concern on her part never lessened.

Breezy weather = snuggles from Zachary.

Oh, this was neat. While on the boat we passed by the coast where we hiked the day prior. Don't know if you can see the boardwalk along the coast there.

More snuggles.

And the lighthouse!

Another attempt to capture the boardwalk.

There were a bunch of seafood restaurants right next to the boat ride place. Just pick your meal.

As you can tell this freaked the girls out a bit.

After a quick lunch at Homr Plus and failed attempt to see Finding Dori,  we went to the Children's Grand Park, not quite sure what to expect.

There was a small zoo, overpriced so we did not go in, but instead found a walking path.

Lots of silly pictures.

As you can imagine the exposed backside made the girls giggle as they said "Oh-Dong-Ee" while touching the statue's exposed bum over and over. Why am I not surprised she picked up on this in school?

We pushed on and discovered a beautiful walking path and park.

We found a reservoir in two tiers. Here is the first.

We learned it has been around for over 50 years at least.

Walking over the dam wall.

A view back down.

Weare found some geese that were loud and kind of mean.

Zachary loved them.

Jari met a nice lady who spoke English pretty well, who attached herself to our party, and chatted with Jari for a long while.

We made out way to a playground which was a great find. The girls had been really patient with us as we hiked here and there and looked at random Buddhist Temples.

Our new friend invited us to a local restaurant. We stayed late to let the girls play so this was welcome. She helped us find a 'parking spot' Korean style...

This was awesome.  They bring in some BBQ briquettes glowing hot with a special pan. The rims have egg and cheese and they bring other stuff to throw in the other trough - like corn and whole garlic.

Next, you add the meat.

They have tubes from the ceiling used to suck out the smoke.

Side dished included Kimchi, lettuce, and sweet white onion with "onion sauce"  which was excellent.

This meal up in Pyeongtaek usually runs $15/person. Here we feed all of us for $21.

Miseong and Jari.

Love this. These cars, instead of clearing the intersection just stopped in it causing a bit of a traffic issue. Korea.

These are awesome posts about Busan. It reminded me of our trip to Hong Kong when Karl finished his mission. The boat rides, the beautiful walking paths, the gardens and temples, the food, the pick-your-seafood-meal. What a wonderful adventure!!!! So happy for you!
