A Revolting Rhyme by Charlotte Nielson

We had dinner with some friends from church tonight and Charlotte and Hazel (Foster) spent time laughing at Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes. They then endeavored to write their own.

The Little Mermaid, by Charlotte Nielson

Once in a deep dark sea, there lived a mermaid, ugly as can be.
Oh, poor mermaid, she was so so slow, I believe she was not half as fast as a snail could go.
People would stand there and shout, "You filthy scum! You stupid, lazy, selfish bum!"
Her father was mad. And it got bad. He turned her into a seashell, that Lad!
She was put on the seashore, one fine mornin', and little feet started runnin'.
She screamed and screamed but no voice came out. And little voices started to shout
"Behold, now the fun will begin! The first person who crushes the seashell will win!"
And that was the end of that mermaid, I say, now I will tell you the tale to this very day.
The end, I say!

101 Dalmatians, by Charlotte Nielson

Cruella De Vil had reason to chill,
for the police were not after her.
She liked many things like cigarettes and tea,
but the thing she liked most was fur.
She stole the dogs for their fur one by one,
at last, she smiled and pulled out a gun.
Then there was a bang from the back of the house,
Cruella was startled - she jumped out of her blouse;
a policeman came in and put Cruella in his truck.
"Oh hurrah" cried the puppies, "oh hurrah, what luck"
And as for Cruella if you want to know about her,
She was the puppies' coat, but of skin and not fur.

What writing talent, Charlotte! That's closer to the Hans Christian Andersen version than Disney's. Oh! The places you'll go!
