Chena Lake Walking Trail

Sunday morning, after testing out their "winter" gear, we let the sun climb a little and then went out for a little stroll at a state park nearby.

Before we arrived at our destination we made a quick stop to see the view from on top of the flood plain break that the Army built in this region.

The Chena Lake Walking Trail cruises along the river and provided some beautiful views. Fall is in full swing and from what we have been told, we only get about 2 weeks of fall so we were trying to take full advantage of it.

At the trailhead, there was a sign that said "Bear seen in area on 11 Sept 2020" which was 2 days prior...

Hazel was not excited to be where a bear had been and she walked VERY slowly.

I love Aspens in the fall. I love listening their leaves when the wind flows through them and watching them dance. Combined with their white bark, it makes for some lovely views.

The river flows gently and was relaxing to see for sure.

Jari trying to get a good view of me. Sorry I have never really been photogenic

Kids + Water + Rocks = Distraction from walking while they find rocks to throw into the river.

Every now and again a light breeze would drift through and bring the leaves down like gentle snow. We tried to catch it with the kids in the picture but I was a little late.

The bank erosion provided for some fun photo ops

The kids found some moose tracks which they were excited about.

Overall, nearly 2.5 miles, and the kids did well. It was a nice welcome to Alaska.
