Chena River Cross Country Skiing

Just after Christmas we had a large snow storm followed by freezing rain. This made the roadways treacherous to drive. Fairbanks crews have made great progress and I was thrilled to find that Chena River Recreation area was opened and groomed for skiing! So we went out to day with a temperature of -10 F (warming to -6 when we were done) which believe it or not is quite hospitable for this time of year.

Camille is our little caboose so I hung back with her.

It did not take long for Hazel to return panicked that there was a moose on the trail she thought would hurt her. It is good she respects these creatures enough to keep back but it was well off the trail so Jari rallied the troops to keep them moving r.

Then along came Zach enjoying his skis he inherited from Hazel along with some poles

And here was the moose laying down in the snow and not caring about us.

Who said skiing was easy?

So beautiful!

Cute girl with a great smile. Even her eyes smile.

Not exactly aerobic exercise when I am out with the kids.... After 1 hour I had logged 1 mile on my Garmin watch and probably 1/3 of that carrying Camille. Fun times.
